Young prodigy Prithvi Shaw likely to miss New Zealand Tests

The 20-year-old cricket star, Prithvi Shaw, had been excited to make his smashing comeback after 8 months long suspension. But it seems the budding star is not in the condition to showcase his batting prowess in India A squad. The young player was banned from cricket on doping charges inflicted upon him and he made a solid comeback in the domestic season with Ranji Test Trophy 2019-20. Prithvi, who was excited to appear for the India’s tour of New Zealand, is likely to be out of action due to his shoulder injury. As a result of his medical issues, Shaw was ruled out of Mumbai vs. Karnataka clash in the Ranji Test Trophy and was rushed to National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Mumbai’s team manager Ajinkya Naik said, "He has been called to NCA. Mumbai Cricket Association got an email from the BCCI. He has left for Bengaluru. He couldn't even lift his hand. He has a tear in the shoulder. That much is known”. A labral tear in his shoulder was confirmed through the MRI scan. Since he has a severe injury and is not in the position to bat, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has withdrawn his name from India A squad before the New Zealand tour begins.

Prior to this tournament, Shaw was excluded from the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2018-19 edition Down Under owing to his injury and has been struggling lately with the bat. Thus, it is speculated that he may run against time to be fit for the NZ tour.

India’s young sensation Shaw will also be away from major series following the Australia Tests. Now the selectors are in dilemma as to who will replace Shaw in India’s Test squad against New Zealand. According to the sources, Mayank Agarwal is the top choice as he is one of the most prolific and consistent run-getter in the domestic circuit.
