Australian opener David Warner has been officially ruled out of the final ODI and the T20I series against India. During the second innings of the penultimate ODI, Warner injured himself and he left the ground. Later in the night, Australia confirmed that he won't be available for the next four white-ball assignments Warner has been terrific with the bat, scoring consecutive half-centuries in the series. Cricket Australia has decided to give him time to recover before the Adelaide Test which will be played in Adelaide.
Moreover, Australia has now rested its main pacer Pat Cummins for the T20Is to keep him fresh for the upcoming Test series. Pat Cummins is the leading wicket-taker for Australia in ICC World Test Championship 2019-21 and he has played an important role to take Australia to the top spot in ICC Test Rankings.
"Pat and Davie are critical to our plans for the Test Series. Davie will work through his injury rehab and in Pat's case it is important all of our players are managed well to keep them mentally and physically fit throughout what is a challenging summer. The priority for both is being fully prepared for one of the biggest and most important home Test Series we have played in recent years, especially with World Test Championship points up for grabs,” head coach Justin Langer said.
D'Arcy Short has been named as Warner's replacement and Australia can add him to the playing XI as well. Short has played his last T20I against India in 2019 and he has been so consistent in the Australian T20 League. Meanwhile, all-rounder Marcus Stoinis retained his spot despite facing an injury in the opening ODI on Friday. Moises Henriques replaced him in the penultimate ODI.
