Lionel Messi had another record-breaking year in 2019. Magical Messi lifted his tenth Spanish Football League title in 2019 and overtook Xavi with the most wins in Barcelona's history.
The 32-year-old also surpassed Iker Casillas for the most league victories overall. The Argentine won his sixth Ballon d'Or trophy along with FIFA men's best player 2019.
The way Barcelona's No. 10 is going, we can expect another record-setting year from him.
Here are the records Barca’s little magician can achieve in 2020:
Most Champions League hat-tricks
Messi currently has eight Champions League hat-tricks to his name and is the joint leader of the most hat-tricks in the competition alongside Ronaldo. If he notches one more hattrick, he will surpass Ronaldo and he will hold the record of the most hattricks in the Europe’s premier league tournament.
Seventh Ballon d'Or
Messi clinched a record-setting sixth Ballon d'Or trophy in Paris on December 2019. The 32-year-old is performing exceptionally in Spanish Football League and there is a strong chance that he might defend his crown in 2020. If he manages to do so, he would become the third-oldest player ever achieve this feat after Stanley Matthews (41) and Lev Yashin (34).
Seventh Golden Boot
Messi has already set the record of winning the golden boot six times but he has the chance to further extend his legacy.
Messi currently leads the Spanish Football League scoring charts with 13 goals and he could set another new record by winning it the seventh time- four times on the bounce!!
900 Career games
Messi currently has played 843 matches since his debut for Barcelona as a 16-year-old in 2004. The forward could reach to 900 games in 2020 if he stays fit.
500 Barcelona wins
Messi has so far won 498 matches for Barcelona in his 705 official games. The Argentine just needs two more win to claim another record. He could achieve this milestone on the first week of 2020 itself if Barca can manage to win the game Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup next Thursday and also beat Espanyol in Spanish Football League on Saturday.
Most Champions League matches for Barcelona
At 140 games in the Champions League, Messi is only 11 behind Xavi, who holds the record for Barcelona.
Casillas leads the pack with 177 appearances followed by Ronaldo who has appeared in 168 matches so far.
