Switzerland and Germany face off each other to secure their first victory in UEFA Nations League 2020-21.
Team Preview
Switzerland would face Germany after the 2-1 defeat to Ukraine in Group A4 opener. Haris Seferovic netted an equalizer in the first half after Andriy Yarmolenko's strike for Ukraine in the 14th minute. In the 68th minute, Oleksandr Zinchenko's gorgeous goal assisted by Mykhaylichenko to give last year’s semifinalist 2-1 defeat. Vladimir Petkovic's men had a tremendous season in 2018-19, finishing 4th, losing to England through penalty shootout in the 3rd place off. The defeat against Ukraine made their start quite scary as they face Germany and Spain next in the group fixtures and they require a commendable show to go through the next round.
Meanwhile, Germany would also aim to get three points after a last-minute heartbreak against Spain which forced Germany to end with one point. After a goalless first half, Timo Werner scored for Germany in the 51st minute and Spain couldn’t find the equalizer till the 90th minute. Joachim Low's men were heading to a 1-0 victory but Jose Gaya avoided a defeat for Spain, scoring an equalizer five minutes into injury time. Germany and Switzerland squared off last time in 2012 when Switzerland had the final laugh with 5-3 in a friendly-game. The last competitive match between both sides was recorded in the 1996 World Cup. Apart from H2H history, Sunday’s game is important for both sides to add three vital points in the table. Ukraine will also take on Spain in the next encounter of Group A4 on the same night.
