Sri Lanka squad for World T20 Cup 2024

Sri Lanka squad for the upcoming World T20 Cup 2024 has been announced. The 2014 winners are looking for their second title. Notably, their performances after their maiden World T20 Cup win hasn’t been up to the mark. They have failed to reach the semis of every World T20 Cup between 2016 and 2022. This time around, they have been expected to go past the first round, unless they get beaten by lower-ranked teams.

Sri Lanka has been slotted in the Group D alongside South Africa, Netherlands, Bangladesh and debutants, Nepal. The last group of the first round is expected to be one of the most competitive groups.

Sri Lanka Squad:

W. Hasaranga (c), C. Asalanka, K. Mendis, P. Nissanka, K. Mendis, S. Samarawickrama, A. Mathews, D. Shanaka, D. D. Silva, M. Theekshana, D. Wellalage, D. Chameera, N. Thushara, M. Pathirana, D. Madushanka. 

Traveling Reserves: A. Fernando, V. Viyaskanth, B. Rajapaksa, J. Liyanage.

The team has a mix of new players as well as the experienced ones. Players such as D. Wellalage, and N. Thushara will be part of a World Cup side for the first time. D. Madushanka and M. Pathirana are the ones who played in the 50-over World Cup for the first time last year. 

They will also play in the World T20 Cup for the first time. The rest of the side has enough experience to play at the highest level.
