Team Preview

West Indies and South Africa will take a break one day and meet again on the same ground for the third T20I. South Africa did a wonderful job and defended 166 against a hard-hitting side, thanks to tight bowling from Linde and Shamsi. The series is now leveled at 1-1 and both sides would look to take a lead tonight.

South Africa made a good start in the first half of the innings. De Kock and Hendricks added 73 runs for the opening wicket. Bavuma also looked solid and scored 46 runs. Once again, Proteas failed to add the acceleration in the last overs. From 122/2 in 13 overs, they scored just 44 runs in the last 7 overs to reach 166. South Africa got two wickets in powerplay and later, they picked their half-team on 70. Fabian Allen fought hard with 12-ball 34 but the Windies fell short of 16 runs. Linde and Shamsi conceded only 35 runs in their 8 overs and picked three wickets. Their spells in middle-overs proved worthy. Rabada scalped three for 37.

West Indies have a quality batting unit but they cannot go with a similar approach in each game. After losing two wickets in the powerplay, they didn’t rotate the strike and looked for boundaries. After losing 5 wickets on 70, they needed a partnership but intent was missing. Meanwhile, South Africa has to solve its middle-order issues. They couldn’t deliver in death-overs despite getting a good start from the top-order.

It was South Africa’s third win in the last 10 games. They lost to Pakistan twice and England once in the last three T20I series post covid. Proteas would look to win a series this time.

Pitch Report

St George’s surface in Grenada is a pure batting wicket and it will be a flat track to get easy runs. After two back-to-back games, we can expect some spin later in the game. Chasing would be an ideal call after winning the toss.
