For the first time, a cricket match has been postponed on a matchday due to COVID-19. The first ODI between South Africa and England has been postponed, scheduled to play on Friday at Newlands ground.
CSA made the official confirmation just more than two hours before the scheduled start. As per the reports, one South African player has been tested positive for COVID-19.
"This decision results from a player from the Proteas team testing positive for COVID-19 after the teams' last round of scheduled testing performed on Thursday ahead of the ODIs," a CSA media issued a statement.
ECB also agreed to postpone the first encounter of the three-matches series. The ODI series will now start on Sunday, with the first game will be played in Cape Town at a scheduled time.
"In the interests of the safety and well-being of both teams, match officials and all involved in the match, the Acting CEO of CSA, Kugandrie Govender as well as the CEO of the ECB, Tom Harrison, have agreed to postpone the first fixture to Sunday." added the media release.
