Cricket South Africa announced their squad for the England series. It would be South Africa’s first international assignment since February. The Proteas will host England for a white-ball series, including three ODIs and three T20Is. The first match of the series will be played on November 27. They will also start their first assignment in ICC’s CWC Super League.
Quinton De Kock will lead the side who recently took his side to win the T20I series against Australia at home. South Africa has included 24 players in the squads. They retained Janneman Malan and Heinrich Klassen, who performed very well in Australia’s series.
After an excellent display in Indian T20 League, Cricket South Africa has recalled their two leading players Kagiso Rabada and Faf Du Plessis. The duo missed the ODI series against Australia.
Most of the South African players appeared in Indian T20 League, and all have been excellent. To prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup, South Africa focused on youngsters. Glenn Stuurman is the new face in the 24-men squad. In spin, they have included George Linde, Tabraiz Shamsi, Keshav Maharaj, and Jon-Jon Smuts. Imran Tahir, who took retirement from the ODIs last year, wasn't considered in the T20 squad. Chris Morris has been dropped from the team who has performed very well for the Bangalore in Indian T20 League.
"This is an important season for the team, with an ICC T20 World Cup coming up late next year in India," CSA's Director of Cricket, Graeme Smith, said during the squad announcement.
He also stated, "I'm sure that the T20 series, in particular, is going to boast some explosive performances for cricket fans to enjoy at home. An ODI series against the reigning World Champions will always bring a level of excitement of its own. I'm looking forward to an exciting return to international cricket for our Proteas.’
