After a promising start to the Champions League 2020-21, the Ukrainian champions look to add one more victory on Tuesday. Shakhtar defeated Spanish Champions Real Madrid 3-2 and played a goalless draw with Inter Milan in their first two opening matches.
They had a 3-0 advantage in the opening fixture, and Madrid couldn’t find the equalizer after the double strikes in the second half. They have picked up 4 points from two matches in the absence of several key players. Castro's side was not up to the mark in their last tie with Milan. The Serie A club put a fabulous display with goal opportunities from Nicolo Barella and Romelu Lukaku, but somehow, Shakhtar avoided a defeat.
Meanwhile, Borussia Monchengladbach has played two draws in their first two games. Marco Rose’s side is aiming for three points from the Ukrainian opponent. Against Inter Milan, the German outfit was looking to take early three points, but Lukaku netted an equalizer through a corner in a last-minute to end the match in a 2-2 draw.
A similar story repeated against Real Madrid as the Gladbach got a 2-0 lead, courtesy of Thuram’s brace but the German club allowed Madrid to score. Karim Benzema scored the first goal in the 87th minute, followed by Casemiro’s last-minute equalizer to deliver the Bundesliga club another 2-2 draw. Gladbach’s attack can create trouble for Shakhar, and they are entering this fixture with a tag of ‘favourites’. They require depth in their defense to avoid any comeback in the second half.
