Sevilla made into the UEFA Europa League final for the record 6th time after defeating Manchester United 2-1 on Sunday evening in the semifinal. Manchester United had a dream start as English Club went ahead in the game with first strike Bruno Fernandes from the penalty spot in the ninth minute.
With one goal behind, Sevilla was in pressure and Bruno Fernandes converted the resulting spot-kick after Rashford was fouled by Diego Carlos inside the penalty area. The Red Devils were awarded their 22nd penalty of the season.
The Spanish Club didn’t take so much time to equalize the score as Former Liverpool man Suso strike in the 26th minute through the help of Sergio Reguilon. The Spanish outfit put a remarkable comeback and after the first half, the score was leveled with 1-1.
At the start of the second half, United created some opportunities but with smart goalkeeping and tight defense from Sevilla ruined their all chances. The English forward Anthony Martial missed some clear chances to send the goal out of the goal post. In 76th minute, Luuk de Jong put the Spanish Outfit ahead in the game with the strike. The Dutchman netted his first Europa League goal since November 2014.
Manchester United forwards went quick to the goal area of the Spanish Club in search of the equalizer but the night was in favor of them. The Red Devils lost 3 semifinals in a season and on these occasions, they failed to convert chances into the goals. The Old Trafford is the first club ever to lose an FA Cup, League Cup, and European semi-final in the same season.
Sevilla will now face either Inter Milan or Shakhtar Donetsk in the Europa League final.
