Sachin Tendulkar, Courtney Walsh to join teams for Aussie bushfire relief charity match

The two cricket veterans Sachin Tendulkar and Courtney Walsh will collaborate for the ‘Bushfire Cricket Bash’ to be held next month for raising funds to help the victims of Australia’s bushfires. While the Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar will coach Ricky Ponting XI, West Indies star Courtney Walsh will lead the team skippered by Shane Warne.

The former Test captains will join the Aussie greats namely Adam Gilchrist, Brett Lee, Michael Clarke and Shane Watson, who have also been confirmed for the game. Steve Waugh and Mel Jones will also be part of this match in non-playing roles.

Shedding light on this charity match, Cricket Australia CEO Kevin Roberts said, "We are absolutely honoured to be welcoming Sachin and Courtney back to Australia where they both enjoyed a lot of success as players, and we can't wait to have them involved”.

“We’re looking forward to our people at CA and the entire Australian cricket family coming together for the Big Appeal”, he added.

The match will be played on February 8th as a curtain-raiser to the Australia T20 League final. The venue for the match will be confirmed at the end of the month when the Qualifier of this league is conducted. The proceeds derived from this match will go towards the Australian Red Cross disaster relief and recovery fund.

The bushfires have devasted the flora and fauna and killed 29 people in Australia and several sports personalities have come forward to raise funds for this cause. Glenn Maxwell, Shane Warne, Chris Lynn, and tennis superstars Serena Williams and Nick Kyrgios are among the renowned sports celebrities who have made monetary contributions to the charitable organizations. Their motive is to help Aussies get their lives back on track.
