After a competitive draw in first -leg, Real Madrid and Chelsea will lock horns in the second-leg encounter of the Champions League semifinal. The winner of this match will face Man City in the final who defeated PSG in the first semifinal.
Match Timings: May 06, 12:30 AM IST
Chelsea will welcome Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge for the second-leg semifinal clash in UEFA Champions League. Both sides shared the spoils in the first leg game with a 1-1 draw at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano. Christian Pulisic opened the scoring for Chelsea but Karim Benzema equalised for the Spanish side. Both sides are entering into this fixture after winning their previous domestic games. Chelsea edged past Fulham while Madrid defeated Osasuna 2-0.
Chelsea have a great chance to find the place in the final as they already have scored one away goal. They almost sealed the opening leg game and Zidane’s side was dominated by Tuchel’s side but Benzema’s 71st UCL goal. Chelsea’s record in Premier League under Tuchel is pretty impressive and they had good numbers at Stamford Bridge as well. Blues have changed their game since the departure of Lampard. They have maintained their lead in the top four and three points ahead of 5th placed West Ham with four games in hand.
Blues have been tight in defense and Benzema’s equaliser in the first leg game was the only goal that was conceded by Chelsea in their previous five games in all competitions. Tuchel is unbeaten in away matches, while lost just once at Stamford Bridge. Their only loss in the Champions League came against Porto in 2nd leg quarterfinal. They kept seven clean sheets and conceded only four goals out of their 11 UCL matches so far.
Meanwhile, Los Blancos had a great history of winning Champions League titles. Real Madrid finished their campaign in round-of-16 in 2019 and 2020. They are still looking to replicate their old glory. The previous season, they won the La Liga title after the gap of three years, and this year, chances are slightly dull as Atletico Madrid looks favourites to win La Liga 2020-21.
If Zidane leads Los Blancos in the final, he can join the elite club of Marcello Lippi, Carlo Ancelotti, and Sir Alex Ferguson who have reached the UCL final more times. Zidane’s other focus on retaining the La Liga trophy and last few matches will be crucial. Real Madrid are unbeaten since their 2-1 home defeat to Levante three months back. The Spanish side will make travel to London with a 19-match unbeaten streak and keeping five clean sheets in their last six matches.
