Ranji Test Trophy: Ajinkya Rahane, Prithvi Shaw to play for Mumbai

India’s Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane and young batting sensation, Prithvi Shaw, will appear in the Ranji Test Trophy against heavyweights Karnataka. Both the players were named in Mumbai’s 15-member squad as announced by the association on its website on Monday. Shaw and Rahane have played their previous games against Baroda and Railways.

Rahane has been struggling with the bat against the Railways. While Mumbai registered their victory against Baroda, the team experienced a major loss to Railways by 10 wickets. Rahane has played 63 Tests and he will be playing consecutive Ranji Test Trophy games after a long time. Young prodigy Prithvi, on the other hand, struck a smashing double hundred against Baroda in the first round, but lost the momentum in both innings against Railways at the Wankhede Stadium.

The match is scheduled to take place from January 3 at the Bandra Kurla Complex.

Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Dube and pacer Shardul Thakur are not part of Mumbai’s squad as they are away on India duty, while Sarfaraz Khan has found a place in the squad. This match marks the last game that Shaw will play before flying off to New Zealand with the India A squad.

Mumbai squad: Suryakumar Yadav (c) Aditya Tare (vice-captain) Ajinkya Rahane, Prithvi Shaw, Sarfaraz Khan, Shubham Ranjane, Akash Parkar, Siddhesh Lad, Shams Mulani, Vinayak Bhoir, Shashank Attarde, Royston Dias, Tushar Deshpande, Deepak Shetty and Eknath Kerkar.
