Five-times European Champions and the reigning Bundesliga winner Bayern Munich will take on first-time finalists Paris Saint Germain in the 2019-20 Champions League final on Sunday at the Estadio da Luz.
Lisbon is ready to host one of the biggest Football games of this year – the prestigious Champions League Final. Bayern has won this trophy five teams but PSG is here for the first time in their club history.
The Bundesliga Club is on cloud 9 after winning the German’s top flight for the 8th successive year and earned the place in the Champions League after thrashing oppositions, including the 8-2 victory against Barcelona in final eight. The semifinal game was like a cakewalk for the Bavarians, defeating Lyon 3-0 courtesy of Robert Lewandowski’s one goal and Gnabry’s brace. Bayern’s last Champions League title came seven years ago, and this is the best opportunity they have, after having a splendid winning run at UFEA Champions League. The German outfit netted 42 goals during their unbeaten 10-matches winning streak in the competition this season, the 2nd most all-time goals by a club in Champions League after Barcelona (45). They humiliated Barcelona 8-2, Tottenham Hotspur 7-2, Red Star Belgrade 6-0, and Chelsea 7-1 on aggregate. These numbers are showing the strength of Bayern this season.
Meanwhile, PSG had a similar journey at the domestic level as they won the Ligue 1, Coupe de France, Coupe de la Ligue, and Trophee des Champions titles this season. They made into the first-ever Champions League final. After Atalanta’s quarterfinal game, PSG had lot of questions to answer but they delivered the best part against RB Leipzig in the semifinal. The French outfit’s journey to Champions League had a dream story, defeating Real Madrid and making a beautiful comeback in the last minutes in quarterfinals. This maiden journey to final will conclude on a happy or sad note, decided on Sunday against a much stronger German opponent.
Head to Head
PSG and Bayern both have met on eight previous occasions at European Stage and the Ligue 1 champion has an upper hand, winning five times against Bayern. The previous meetings happened in the 2017-18 group stages where PSG won the home game 3-0 and Bayern won the home-game winning 3-1.
