Cricket Australia is going one step ahead to break the monotony of the traditional T20 league format. For the upcoming season of the Australian T20 League, they introduced Power Surge, X-Factor player, and Bash Boost. They have earlier changed the playoff system by adding 5 teams into the playoffs. Cricket Australia is trying to execute the new ideas in their league system to promote their tournament in the world. The coaches and captains will put new tactics against their opponents.
Cricket Australia announced these three new rules on Monday under the guidance of Trent Woodhill, the Australian T20 League’s player acquisition and cricket consultant:
Power Surge
To give the acceleration to batting sides, the initial power play reduced from the first six overs of a match to just four. It means, batting sides can use the remaining two overs as a "power surge" in the final 10 overs with the same fielding restrictions.
Bash Boost
To add more drama to the points table, CA has revealed a new feature called Bash Boost. Now, the four points will be given to the winning side and the extra one point will be the bonus point. The Bash Boost point will be given to whichever side, who had a higher score at the 10-over mark.
X-factor player
This new feature is somehow related to the super sub. Teams will reveal their 13 players squad for the game. Extra two players will be used as x-factor players. At the 10-over mark of the first innings, teams will be able to substitute either their 12th or 13th man. The captain can use them in the situation when either a batsman who has not faced a ball yet or a bowler who has not sent down more than one over.
This is not the first time when a board is making changes in the traditional format. England & Wales Cricket Board introduced "The Hundred" in 2019 and the first season was postponed due to COVID-19. It was a 100-ball format and England has done all the process for the mega season in 2021.
