Northern vs Welsh, Hundred Ball Championship 2021, Match Preview

Northern and Welsh begin their Hundred Ball Championship 2021 campaign tonight in the second doubleheader game.

Match Timings: July 24, 11 PM IST

Team Preview

Hundred Ball Championship 2021 will have two games on Saturday and in the first doubleheader day, Northern and Welsh will battle out in their first game at Nottingham.

Northern are among the top side as they have ticked all the points in the squad. They have Ben Stokes as their only centrally-contracted Test player. Faf du Plessis will lead the side and they have Chris Lynn will bat the top. Mujeeb will charge the spin attack with Adil Rashid. Rashid has been impactful in the home season.

Northern have some fine local players like David Willey, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Adam Lyth, Brydon Carse, John Simpson, Harry Brook, and Callum Parkinson. Parkinson picked up 18 wickets in T20 Blast, while Harry Brook looked solid with the bat by aggregating 485 runs in Blast at an average of 80.83.

Welsh is a top side considering the balance between bat and ball. Ollie Pope will be only England’s centrally-contracted Test player. They have two New Zealand players Glenn Phillips and Jimmy Neesham who were part of the T20 Blast. Afghanistan spinner Qais Ahmad will be the other overseas player and he will lead the spin attack.

Jonny Bairstow and Tom Banton will open for Welsh. They have Jake Ball who is in good form and picked 18 wickets from just 9 matches. They have some quality players like Ben Duckett, Ian Cockbain, Josh Cobb, and Liam Plunkett. Leus du Plooy would be the handy player who scored 395 runs in the T20 Blast. They would expect fire from local players. Northern are favourites tonight considering their depth in all departments.

Pitch Report

Nottingham’s surface is good for batting and it will be the second consecutive game so we might expect a bit of spin. Chasing might be tricky if spin comes in handy. 140 would be a formidable total.
