Former Olympic champion, N. Chopra has managed to produce his best performance of the season in Diamond League 2024. In the quest for finals qualification, the Paris Olympics 2024 silver medalist managed to cover the distance of 89.49 meters. During this, the 26-year-old went past his 2024 Olympic record of 89.45 meters. For those who don’t know, the Indian Army Subedar needed to finish in the top-six to qualify for the final.
This match was played in Lausanne, Switzerland and the final will be played in Brussels, Belgium. Meanwhile, even though the World Champion is riddled with injuries, he still manages to come up with great performances.
Talking about the distances he covered during his six attempts, he went between 80 to 89 meters. After four attempts, he was down to fourth position. However, in the last two attempts, he managed to get to second, only behind A. Peters, who was the Bronze medalist in the 2024 Olympics. Notably, A. Nadeem from Pakistan had decided to skip the event, following his gold-medal run in the Olympics.
N Chopra – Tough start but comeback was nice
After the event, the World Champion revealed that he wasn’t feeling at his best in the first four attempts but in the last two attempts, he pushed himself to the limit.
“The feeling wasn’t great at first, but I´m happy with my throw, especially the second-best throw on my last attempt,” N. Chopra said after the event. “It was a tough start, but the comeback was really nice and I enjoyed the fighting spirit I showed. Even though my early throws were around 80-83 meters, I pushed hard in the last two attempts finishing strong. Competing at this high level, it’s important to stay mentally tough and fight through.”
It will be interesting to see whether he manages to win another Diamond League. He previously won the title a couple of years back.
