The legendary Argentinian Footballer and Barcelona star Lionel Messi beat Brazilian legend Pele in most goals record with a single club. Argentina International scored his 644th goal for Barcelona during the Spanish Liga match against Real Valladolid. With this goal, Messi led his side to a 3-0 victory. Messi netted this record goal through a brilliant backheel pass from Pedro Gonzalez.
Messi showed his happiness over social media and wrote, "When I began playing, I never thought I would break any record, much less the one I have surpassed today that belonged to Pele. I only want to give my thanks to all those who have helped me all these years, my teammates, my family, my friends, and those who support me every day.”
Pele also replied to Messi on Instagram with the caption,"Like you, I know what it's like to love wearing the same shirt every day. Like you, I know that there is nothing better than the place we feel at home. Congratulations on your historic record, Lionel. But above all, congratulations on your beautiful career at Barcelona. Stories like ours, of loving the same club for so long, unfortunately will be increasingly rare in football. I admire you very much."
Pele scored 643 career goals in 665 matches with Santos FC, and Messi took 749 matches to break this record. The Brazilian star played 19 seasons while Messi is playing his 17th season in Spanish Liga. Pele started his Football career at the age of
15 and he has won the major trophies, including the three FIFA World Cup for Brazil. Messi hasn’t achieved this glory as Argentina made it into the 2014 World Cup final but lost to Germany.
