Meet the Spanish Football League’s Brand Ambassador: Rohit Sharma

One of the most popular Spanish Football League has announced Rohit Sharma as its brand ambassador. With this, RoHitman has become the first-ever non-footballer in the league’s 90-year-old history to become the face of the brand. India is a sprawling football market as several foreign organizations are stepping into the territory with an agenda to gain foothold in the country. Recently, Manchester City tied up with Indian football league and in fact, if reports are to be Manchester United are keen to tour India in 2020. In 2017, Premier League had also appointed Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh as its brand ambassador in India. This has come in line with their plans to expand their fanbase in India.

The Spanish league unveiled his Rohit’s name and welcomed him first on their official Facebook page. Take a look.

On signing up as the ambassador, Rohit expressed his views on the rising footballing culture in India. He said, “It’s encouraging to see the Spanish giant have made inroads into the Indian football ecosystem through their grassroots programme”. 

He added, “Football in India, is in its global growth trajectory and it is heartening to see that it is no more considered as the ‘sleeping giant”.

He is delighted to be associated with the brand and this is how he shared his gratitude and excitement on Twitter.

Rohit Sharma’s personality aligns with the league’s standards

As Rohit has come onboard, the Managing Director of the league in India, Jose Antonio Cachaza, sang praises of the ace batsman. He said, "Rohit Sharma is the perfect example of this, in spite of being the most renowned face in Indian cricket right now, he is also an ardent football fan”. He further said that Rohit embodies the principles and standards of Spanish Football League.

Twitteratis question the appointment of a non-footballer as the league’s face

On one hand, where people are congratulating Rohit Sharma for the honor, football fans are raising questions on selecting a non-footballer for this position. While Bhaichung Bhutia popularised the football among the youth in India and motivated them to be part of the field action, Sunil Chhetri has been promoting national football team lately. Despite the relentless efforts of these amazing footballers, the league chose a non-footballer to be the brand face. In fact, former I-League champion Minerva Punjab FC’s owner Ranjit Bajaj took to Twitter and hinted why Chhetri was not chosen as the ambassador.
