With a dominating bowling brilliance and a steady knock from Bairstow, Hyderabad ended their 3-match losing streak in Indian T20 League 2021. With their third consecutive defeat, Punjab slipped to bottom in the table.

Detailed Match Report 

First Innings (Punjab 120 all-out) 

Hyderabad included Kane Williamson and handed the debut cap to Kedar Jhadav. Punjab lost KL Rahul in the 4th over and Hyderabad started dominating the game. Rahul also completed 5000 runs in T20s, the second quickest after Chris Gayle. They lost two wickets in successive deliveries and Rashid picked up Gayle to leave Punjab struggling at 47/4. Rashid picked up Gayle for the 6th time in the T20s. Warner allowed Abhishek Sharma to bowl his full 4 overs and he conceded just 24 with two wickets. Punjab kept losing regular wickets and bowled out on 120. Khaleel Ahmed bagged three wickets for 21. Bhuvi, Rashid and Kaul picked one wicket each. 

Second Innings (Hyderabad 121/1) 

Hyderabad made a positive start and the openers looked solid in the powerplay. They finished powerplay on 50 without loss and at the halfway mark, they were 73/0. Fabian Allen bowled a wicket-maiden in the 11th over but it was a delayed effort. After Warner’s wicket, Williamson joined Bairstow and Hyderabad made this chase a cakewalk. Punjab controlled runs in middle overs but Bairstow and Kane rotated the strike to finish the line. Bairstow scored a fine half-century on a challenging surface. With this comprehensive victory, Hyderabad ended their 3-match losing streak to find the first victory of the season. On the other hand, Punjab suffered a hattrick of defeats and they moved to the bottom in the table.

Jonny Bairstow is our star performer of the match. The Hyderabad opener scored a match-winning knock and finished the game for his side. On the challenging surface of Chennai, he looked mature and calm to deliver Hyderabad their first victory of the season. He scored 63 off 56 balls with three fours and three sixes.
