Detailed Match Report

First Innings (Mumbai 137/9)

Delhi included Amit Mishra and Mumbai included Jayant Yadav to set up the best spin combination for this match. Mumbai’s start was not good as De Kock got out on 2. Rohit looked better and he provided the fire in powerplay and Mumbai finished powerplay on 55/1. In middle-overs, Mumbai failed to extend this start and Avesh Khan bagged Suryakumar to break the 58-run stand. Mishra bagged dangerous Rohit on 44 and he picked him for the 7th time in Indian T20 League, most by any bowler.

Mumbai lost five wickets in the margin of 17 runs. Jayant Yadav and Ishan Kishan revived Mumbai from the trouble and added vital 39 runs for the 7th wicket. Amit Mishra picked Ishan Kishan to end this stand and claimed his 4th 4-wicket haul in Indian T20 League. He also set a record of most 4-wicket hauls in the history of the Indian T20 League. In death-overs, Mumbai couldn’t find runs and finished on 137/9.

Second Innings (Delhi 138/4)

Mumbai almost got Dhawan early but the third umpire disallowed the catch. They didn’t wait for the wicket and Yadav picked Shaw on 7. Delhi needed a partnership and Steve Smith joined Dhawan. Both added vital 53 runs for the 2nd wicket. Stand-in skipper Pollard took the ball and sent Smith into the pavilion after scoring 33.

Delhi promoted Lalit Yadav up in the order and Delhi crossed 100 with back-to-back boundaries off Chahar’s over. In search of another boundary, Dhawan lost his wicket after scoring a fine 45. Mumbai put some pressure on Delhi by picking Pant and added more twists to this game. Hetmyer and Lalit Yadav's calm approach avoided any drama to secure a thrilling victory for Delhi. It was Delhi's first victory against Mumbai after 5 matches and first victory at Chepauk after 11 years.
