Detailed Match Report

First Innings (Mumbai 159/9)

Maxwell, Jamieson, and Patidar made their Bengaluru debut, while Mumbai handed the Mumbai caps to Chris Lynn and Jansen. Lynn struggled in the first few overs and tight bowling from Bangalore created a mix-up between Rohit and Lynn. Rohit got run-out and Suryakumar Yadav joined Lynn to add a half-century stand for the 2nd wicket. Lynn took his time and accelerated after the powerplay. Before getting out on 49, he smashed four 4s and three sixes.

After the wicket of Lynn, Mumbai couldn’t capitalise and lost regular wickets. In the final six overs, Mumbai scored only 39 runs and lost 6 wickets. Harshal Patel became the first player to grab a fifer against Mumbai in Indian T20 League history. He picked three wickets in the final over and ended the figure with 27/5. Mumbai set the target of 160 for Bangalore to end their losing streak of 8 matches in the opening game of a season in the Indian T20 League.

Second Innings (Bangalore 160/8)

Sundar opened with Virat Kohli and Bangalore looked solid in the first 4 overs. Krunal Pandya got Sundar on 10 and Boult struck in the final over of the powerplay to leave Bangalore struggling at 46/2. New buy Maxwell joined Kohli and Bangalore were 75/2 at the halfway mark of the chase. Maxwell hit his first six after a gap of two years.

Maxwell offered an acceleration and Kohli showed grittiness to add 50 runs for the 3rd wicket. Rohit recalled Bumrah to find a breakthrough and he got Kohli out on 33. Jansen brought Mumbai on the driver’s seat with two wickets in a single over and most importantly, they got Maxwell in the pavilion. Regular wickets kept Bangalore out of the contest but ABD fought hard. Bangalore required 7 off the final over and ABD got run out on 48 when they needed 3 off 3. Harshal Patel hit the winning run to help Bangalore to win this thriller.
