Match Report: Hyderabad cruise to play-offs with a 10-wicket win against Mumbai

Hyderabad becomes the fourth team to qualify for the play-offs, displacing Bangalore as the third-placed on the points table & knocking Kolkata out of the top-4. Wriddhiman Saha and David Warner’s crucial opening partnership help Hyderabad to chase a total of 150 runs, allowing them to register a win against the top-placed Mumbai.

Detailed Match Report 

With an on and off season, Hyderabad finally manages to end its league stage campaign on a positive note. Chasing a target of 150 runs, Hyderabad cruised to the playoffs with an easy win. Sandeep Sharma yet again turned out to be a blessing for Hyderabad as the brilliant bowler managed to pick 3 crucial wickets for the team in the form of Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock, and Ishan Kishan. Mumbai lost its openers within the first 5 overs of the game, when Sandeep picked Rohit’s wicket in the 2nd over at a mere total of 12 runs, followed by de Kock’s wicket in the 4th over at a total of 39 runs. 

What came after was a quick fall of wickets as neither Krunal Pandya nor Saurabh Tiwari managed to stay put on the pitch. Mumbai lost 3 wickets within the 11th & 12th over of their inning. One of the best teams of the Indian T20 League 2020 season, looked pale today as they managed to put just 149 runs on board, courtesy to 25, 36, 33, and 41 runs scored by Quinton de Kock, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan & Kieron Pollard, respectively. 

Hyderabad looked all in form and very eager to find its way to the play-offs. The match was a do or die situation for the men in orange & the David Warner led team grabbed the opportunity with both hands. The team looked all charged up in both the batting and bowling department. Sandeep Sharma picked three wickets while Jason Holder and Shahbaz Nadeem managed to bag two wickets each. Meanwhile, Rashid Khan had to settle for 1. In the batting department, skipper David Warner and his opening partner Wriddhiman Saha held the command and single-handedly led their team to the victory with 17 balls to spare.

With this comprehensive win, Hyderabad has displaced Bangalore on the Points table to occupy the third-spot and will now be meeting Virat's team on November 6, 2020, for the season's Eliminator.
