Dhoni created history in Indian T20 League as he played his 200th game for Chennai, the most by any player for a single franchise. Both teams were unchanged. Deepak Chahar picked Mayank Agarwal on the 4th delivery of the innings and Chennai did one more damage by picking up KL Rahul on 5. Chahar shined with the new ball and picked three more wickets to complete his 4-wicket haul. Shahrukh Khan fought hard with 36-balls 47 and helped Punjab to cross 100. Sam Curran, Bravo, and Moeen Ali picked one wicket each to restrict Punjab to 106/8 in 20 overs. It was the lowest total by Punjab in Indian T20 League having batted full overs.
Second Innings (Chennai 107/4)
It was a tough task for Punjab to defend 106 in Wankhede but they bowled very well in the powerplay. Gaikwad struggled and got out on 5 off 16 balls. Punjab conceded only 32 in the powerplay and picked one wicket. Moeen Ali and Plessis constructed the chase with a good partnership of 66 runs. Murugan Ashwin bagged Moeen Ali on 46 when Chennai required only 17 runs. Shami added some drama in the end by picking Raina and Rayudu on successive deliveries.
