First Innings (Chennai 220/3)
Kolkata recalled Narine and Nagarkoti to drop Shakib and Harbhajan Singh. Chennai made a fluent start and Kolkata were clueless in the powerplay. Ruturaj Gaikwad completed his 4th half-century and Chennai crossed 100 in the 12th over. Varun Chakravarthy got the much-needed breakthrough with the wicket of Gaikwad who scored 64 off 42 balls. Plessis also completed his fifty and added quick 50 runs with Moeen Ali. MS Dhoni promoted himself up in the order and scored 17 off just 8 balls. Plessis remained not-out on 95 and Jadeja’s last-ball six helped Chennai to get 220 on board. In the last five overs, Kolkata conceded 76 runs, including 19 off the final over.
Second Innings (Kolkata 202 all-out)
Deepak Chahar’s love for the new ball continues as he got Gill on duck. He also sent Rana back into the pavilion and Kolkata now formed a mini-collapse. In powerplay, they lost their five wickets and Chahar bagged his second 4-wicket haul of the season. Russell added some fire and smashed a 21-ball half-century. Sam Curran broke this blistering stand with Russell’s wicket. Ngidi ended the hopes with Kartik’s wicket who scored 40 off 24 balls. Pat Cummins added a twist in the game after smashing 30 off Sam Curran’s over and also scored his second half-century off 23 balls. Kolkata fought hard but damage in powerplay hurt them throughout the match. Chennai won their third consecutive game and Kolkata lost their third straight game.
