Detailed Match Report

First Innings (Hyderabad 171/2)

Hyderabad recalled Sandeep and Manish Pandey while Chennai included Moeen Ali and Ngidi. Dhoni dropped Bairstow on the second ball but he didn’t score much Sam Curran got him on 7. Hyderabad survived the powerplay and Chennai kept Warner silent. In middle-overs, Hyderabad failed to get boundaries. Manish Pandey scored his 20th half-century. Warner achieved a big milestone by completing 10000 runs in T20. He scored his slowest fifty of the T20 career and become the first batsman to score 50 half-centuries in Indian T20 League. The duo added 106 runs for the 2nd wicket and in search of boundary, Warner lost his wicket after 55-ball 57. In the same over, Manish Pandey also departed after scoring 61 off 46 balls. Kane Williamson played a quick cameo of 26 off just 10 balls and Kedar Jadhav also smashed two boundaries off the last two balls to get 171 on board. In the last three overs, Hyderabad got 44 runs and it helped them to get a competitive total.

Second Innings (Chennai 173/3)

Chennai made a fluent start and both openers looked solid in the powerplay. Warner looked clueless in the field and he tried Rashid early but he failed to pick a wicket in his first spell. Plessis and Gaikwad both completed their half-centuries. Chennai crossed 100 without loss and the required-run rate reduced to 6 runs per over. Rashid provided the breakthrough with the wicket of Gaikwad who scored 75. Plessis crossed Dhawan to take the orange cap. In his final over, Rashid got Plessis and Moeen Ali to end the figure with three for 36. His effort was delayed as the match slipped from Hyderabad. Chennai avoided any late drama in the end and chased down the total with 7 wickets in hand. With this win, Chennai moved to the first spot in the table and Hyderabad suffered their 6th defeat of the season.
