Virgil van Dijk ranked second, Cristiano Ronaldo finished third and Liverpool's Sadio Mane finished fourth in the Ballon d'Or race. World Cup winner Megan Rapinoe earned the prestigious award in women’s category. Luka Modric who won the 2018 Ballon d’Or presented the award to Lionel Messi. Messi, who already won Best Fifa Men's player award and European Golden Shoe earlier this year, reclaimed the Ballon d'Or he last won in 2015.
