Kolkata franchise spinner Pravin ineligible to participate in Indian T20 League

The 48-year-old leg-spinner, Pravin Tambe, won't be able to participate in the 2020 edition of the Indian T20 League as per the BCCI protocol. Tambe recently participated in the Abu Dhabi T-10 Carnival which is against the BCCI rules.

A BCCI functionary confirmed the news and said that Tambe can't play in the upcoming tournament since he has played in the T10 League.

"BCCI rules strictly say that an Indian player has to be exclusively playing in the IPL or he has to stay away from the cash-rich league and participate in other leagues across the globe. To have sent in his name for the T10 draft and now to also be a part of the IPL is clearly against the BCCI protocol. So, he can't play", the BCCI functionary said.

Pravin Tambe became the oldest player to be bought at the Indian T20 League auction held in December 2019 when he was roped in by Kolkata franchise at his base price of Rs 20 lakh.

Tambe, who made his Indian T20 League debut at the age of 41, has so far played 33 matches in all the editions and picked up 28 wickets. Tambe has played for Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Lions and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the cash-rich league.

In 2019, Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh, who hasn’t played for India since 2016, submitted his name in the draft for The Hundred in England, which will take place next year. However, the veteran took his name off the list to continue to play for Chennai in the Indian T20 League.

Yuvraj Singh, on the other hand, took part in the Canada Global T20 League after announcing his retirement from all forms of the game.

The Indian T20 League 2020 edition is set to start from March 29 in Mumbai and the final will be played on May 24.
