Detailed Match Report
Packed with young, enthusiastic players, team Delhi started-off its campaign with back-to-back wins. However, their performance slowed down during the second part of the tournament. Their innings against Hyderabad started with winning the toss & putting the opponents to chase in a bid to put up a defendable total. Opener Prithvi Shaw was rested for the game & Dhawan opened with Stoinis. The duo managed a good 86-run partnership before Rashid Khan played well with the ball & picked Stoinis in the 9th over of the game. The second shocker came in the form of skipper Shreyas Iyer's wicket in the 14th over when he was made to walk back to the pavilion with a mere score of 21 runs. Shikhar Dhawan and Shimron Hetmyer played much-need innings of 78 off 50 and 42 off 22 balls, respectively. Hyderabad bowlers looked pale as they went for a lot of runs while only Sandeep Sharma, Jason Holder & Rashid Khan managing to pick 1 wicket each. At a loss of 3 wickets, Delhi managed to put 189 runs on board in their share of 20 overs.
With 190 runs to chase, Hyderabad already found themselves under pressure & the deadly bowling attack from Kagiso Rabada as well as Marcus Stoinis made things worse. The top-three of the team could manage to only contribute 44 runs altogether till the 5th over. Kane Williamson took over the charge & added vital 67 runs before Rabada caught him on a ball by Stoinis. Williamson's inning was packed with 5 boundaries and 4 sixes. Next followed a rapid fall of wickets every couple of overs & except Abdul Samad's 33 off 16 balls no other player managed to add many runs to the team's total. 3 wickets from Kagiso Rabada in the death overs was the final nail in the coffin. Hyderabad's inning was wrapped up at a total score of 172 runs while Delhi made it to the finals to take another dig at Mumbai after losing to them in Qualifier 1.
