Indian T20 League brand value stands at an all-time high of $5.7 bn

The Indian T20 League’s brand value has jumped up to an all-time high of $5.7 billion, according to the latest report from a leading independent brand valuation consultancy, Brand Finance. The brand value saw a growth of 7.5 percent from last year's $5.3 billion. The report further stated that the 2019 edition of the cash-rich tournament ran up to 330 billion minutes of broadcasting time with over 300 million viewers, who log into the streaming services during the period of 44 days.

When it comes to franchises, team Chennai has come out as the most successful Indian T20 League brand with a valuation of $75.3 million, growing 16.4 per cent from last year's valuation of $64.7 million.

Shahrukh Khan-owned Kolkata franchise’s brand value is $66.5 million and it stands second with a growth of 7.7 per cent from $6.1 million last year. Kolkata is followed by four-time champions Mumbai, which has a total worth of $65.7 million. Team Mumbai saw a 24 per cent rise in brand value over the past few years.

However, when it comes to growth percentage, Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi team saw a whopping rise of 25 per cent over the past season and their current worth sums up to $54 million.

"This year’s tournament ran up over 330 billion minutes of broadcasting time and logged 300 million viewers into the streaming service over a span of 44 days. The IPL continues to exceed expectations for its players, franchisees, team sponsors, and give a boost to the Indian economy", said Savio D’Souza, Director of Brand Finance.

"Its popularity has prompted a strong desire from other cricketing boards to replicate the success such as the England and Wales Cricket Board’s newly announced The Hundred", he added.

However, the tournament is still behind English Premier League (EPL) and La Liga in terms of valuation. While Indian T20 League’s top 5 teams have a combined brand value of $321 million, EPL and La Liga’s top 5 teams have $6.5 bn and 4.2 billion valuation respectively. Formula 1 racing is on top with a business value at $8 billion.
