Indian T20 League 2020 Auction: Strategies for Mumbai

The four-time defending champion, Team Mumbai, is one of the most successful teams of Indian T20 League. The team definitely has a clear idea as to what they want in this auction, despite having the least budget to select a maximum of 7 players. This year, the team has maintained the same strategy as the usual in the transfer windows, keeping their core intact. The team has a terrific top-order batting line up with the likes of  Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, and Kieron Pollard. With the release of 10 players from their squad, Mumbai boasts of a strong team already. Among the released players, there were mostly surplus players who came in as a replacement for injured players.

This auction represents an opportunity to fill the squad with the best of the players to earn this year’s champion title.

Area of concern

Mumbai Indians have got most of their bases covered, but there is still room for improvement to attain a formidable squad by addressing the issues.

  • Bowling department has no flaws, but a backup seamer would be required as a long-term replacement for Malinga.
  • A point to be noticed is that in the last season, they developed a tendency to lose wickets in clusters.
  • An attacking spinner.
  • A strong backups for injured Bumrah and Hardik Pandya.
  • Though the team has great top-order batsmen, they need to revamp their middle-order. They are not only in dearth in this department, but also in terms of backups in the same category.
