The 30-year-old right-arm pacer, Ishant Sharma with his fierce bowling performance helped India to take control over West Indies on second day of first test match at Sir Viv Richards Stadium in Antigua. He scalped five wickets and conceded just 42 runs in 13 overs.
India, who resumed the day at 203/6, went to score a respectable total of 297 thanks to the brilliant partnership between Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma. Both of them added 60 runs for the eighth wicket. Sir Jadeja looked good for his 58 while Ishant played a supportive role from the other end and scored 19 runs off 62 balls.
In response to this total, Kraigg Brathwaite and John Campbell gave West Indies a flying start before Mohammad Shami dislodged John Campbell’s stumps to show him the pavilion way. Following his dismissal, Indian bowlers kept things tight to maintain the pressure on batsman and the hosts managed to score only 12 runs in the next ten overs.
At tea, West Indies were struggling to 82 for three. In the final session of the day, apart from Roston Chase, no Caribbean batsmen showed the fighting spirit. Roston Chase played a handy knock of 48 runs.
But the third session belonged to Ishant Sharma who picked up four wickets to destroy Windies batting line up. He dismissed Shai Hope and Roston Chase in the final session. Previously, he had denied Shimron Hetmyer and Kemar Roach in the same over. The right-arm seamer also picked the wicket of Windies opener Kraigg Brathwaite at the start of the innings.
On the back of his brilliant performance, India finds themselves in front as West Indies reached 189/8 at stumps on Day 2, trailing India by 108 runs.
