After a clinical performance in the recently concluded T20I series against the West Indies, India will be keen to continue the winning momentum as they turn their attention to the 50-over format. The match will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The game will begin at 2 PM IST.
India won the series 2-1 after an emphatic victory in the 3rd T20I. Rohit, Rahul and Virat tormented the West Indies bowlers with their aggressive batting in the final T20I as they posted a mammoth total of 240. Despite a good knock from Windies skipper Kieron Pollard, West Indies were unable to build on their strong performance that saw them level the T20 series against India as they fell short by 67 runs.
Team India have been ruthless at their own den and they will be the favourite to win another series at home. However, the hosts have suffered a major blow as their seasoned pacer, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, has been ruled out of the series with a hamstring injury. They have called Shardul Thakur as a replacement. KL Rahul will open the innings with Rohit Sharma in the absence of Shikhar Dhawan. He would look to grab his chance in the ODI series. Rahul had scored a match-winning knock of 91 runs in the decider.
West Indies Preview
West Indies, on the other hand, have been playing some competitive cricket ever since Kieron Pollard has taken over the captaincy. They are coming off a 3-0 win over Afghanistan and should back themselves to come good against India, but it will not be an easy task against the team ranked second in the ICC ODI rankings.
Although team has a better record while batting first at Chepauk, but with the match being played under the lights, dew will play a crucial role later in the game. Both captains will look to chase on this track.
Clouds are expected to hover around throughout the match. But the rain is not in the forecast as of now. The temperature is expected to be around 26-30 Degrees Celsius.
- Shikhar Dhawan has already been ruled out of the series due to an injury. Karnataka batsman Mayank Agarwal has replaced him in the squad. But the Test opener is unlikely to make it into the playing XI as KL Rahul is expected to open the innings with Rohit Sharma.
- Bhuvneshwar Kumar has also been ruled out of the series due to a hamstring injury. Shardul Thakur has been named as his replacement.
- Evin Lewis sustained a knee injury in the third T20I and his availability for the first ODI as of now is uncertain.
