Detailed Match Report

Tea Session (IND – 41/2)

Mitchell Starc got Prithvi Shaw on a 2-balls duck to provide a good start for Australia. The early swings troubled Pujara and Mayank Agarwal. Pujara’s two shots were too close to the slip. The duo showed a steady resilIence on the pitch. Mayank Agarwal looked set, but Pat Cummins broke his stay after scoring 17. Kohli joined Pujara before the 30 minutes to the break and avoided any blow to India. In 25 overs of the game, India finished the first session on 41/2.

Dinner Session (IND – 66/1)

Kohli and Pujara continued their good partnership and completed 50 runs for the 3rd wicket. Pujara scored two back-to-back boundaries against Lyon to move into the 40s. The Australian spinner got him on 43 to break the 68-runs stand as Pujara got a big inside edge onto his thigh, and Labuschagne caught him behind the leg slip. India were slightly better in the second session with scoring 66 runs and losing just one wicket. With Kohli and Rahane in the middle, India finished the session on 107/3.

Twilight Session (IND – 126/3)

Kohli and Rahane constructed the innings by completing 50 runs for the 4th wicket. In the final session, India bettered its run-rate and easily scored boundaries. The 88-runs stand broke down dramatically as Rahane gifted Australia Kohli’s wicket with a tricky run-out. The misunderstanding between the wicket cost India the big wicket. Kohli went for 74, and Australia got the new ball. Rahane couldn’t stay long and ended his gritty knock on 42. Hazlewood grabbed Vihari to give India the sixth blow. The last hour of the day spoiled all the efforts, and India finished Day 1 on 233/6.

Star Performer of the Day

Virat Kohli is our star performer of the day with scoring a fine half-century. He joined Pujara when India lost its openers on 39. He put half-century stands with both Pujara and Rahane to construct the first day in favour of India. Kohli completed his half-century on 121 balls and scored a fine 74 before getting run-out. Kohli also completed 500 runs in Adelaide Oval, the second-best average on any ground for the Indian captain.

Scorecard – India 233/6 (89 overs)

(Virat Kohli 74, Rahane 42, Pujara 41, Starc 49/2, Cummins 42/1)
