India Squad For World T20 Cup 2024

On April 30, 2024, India’s squad for the upcoming World T20 Cup was announced. After having a look at the squad, most of the players were expected to make the cut. Just one surprise inclusion has been made. These players have been part of the Men In Blue in the T20 team. Let’s look at the players named for the tournament. 

India Squad For World T20 Cup

R. Sharma (Captain) – The right-hander is the only player in the team who has played all editions of the tournament. He was part of the 2007 winning team and has played 34 games in the World T20 Cup so far. Sharma has 967 runs to his name, averaging 34.39 including nine fifties. 

Y. Jaiswal – The left-hander made his international debut last year and has played 17 T20Is. He has hit 502 runs, averaging 33.46 including a hundred and four fifties. 

V. Kohli – The former India skipper has a stellar record in the tournament after making his debut in 2012. In 27 games, the right-hander has 1141 runs, averaging 81.50 including 14 fifties. 

S. Yadav – Middle-Order batter, Yadav was the second-highest run getter for India in the 2022 edition, getting 239 runs in six innings, averaging 59.75 including three fifties. 

Wicket Keepers

R. Pant – The Delhi-player has returned to cricket after a long gap due to a severe car accident. Before this, he played in two editions of World T20 Cup (2021 and 2022). The left-hander has played only seven games and has 87 runs to his name.

S. Samson – After missing out on selection before editions, the right-hander will play his first World Cup across formats. The Kerala player has played 25 games and has hit 374 runs. 

All-Rounders

H. Pandya (Vice Captain) – The pace-bowling all-rounder made his T20I debut in 2016, a couple of months before World T20 Cup 2016. He has played 16 games and has 213 runs to his name and picked 13 wickets. 

Dube – The left-hander is a surprise inclusion in the team. He has played 21 games and has 276 games. Dube will play his first World Cup across formats.

R. Jadeja – The spin-bowling all-rounder made his World T20 Cup debut in 2009 and only missed one edition, i.e 2012. He has played 22 games and has only 95 runs to his name. Jadeja has taken 21 wickets in these matches. 

A. Patel – Another spin-bowling all-rounder is playing in the tournament for the second time only. He made his debut in 2022 as Jadeja was ruled out due to knee injury. 

Bowlers for World T20 Cup

A. Singh – The left-arm swing bowler played in the World T20 Cup 2022 and did well with 10 wickets in six games, averaging 15.60 with the best figures 32/3.

J. Bumrah – The right-arm pacer played in the 2016 and 2021 editions but missed out on the 2022 edition due to back injury. So far, he has played 10 games and has 11 wickets in his World T20 Cup career. 

Y. Chahal – The right-arm leg-spinner didn’t play a single game in the 2022 edition despite being part of the team. This might change in the upcoming tournament. 

K. Yadav – The left-arm leg spinner will play his first World T20 Cup this time around.

M. Siraj – The right-arm pacer missed out on selection in 2021 and 2022. However, this time around, he has made it to the team and might make his debut too.

Traveling Reserves

S. Gill –  The right-hander opening batter wasn’t a certainty in T20I which is why he is part of the traveling reserves who will not be part of the playing squad. 

R. Singh – With a batting average of 89 and a strike-rate of 176.23, the left-hander was unlucky to miss out and Dube was preferred over him

K. Ahmed – Having made his T20I debut in 2018, the left-arm swing bowler has played only 14 games and has 13 wickets. He is yet to play a World Cup match. 

A. Khan – The right-arm pacer has played 20 games and has 19 wickets to his name. He has also not played a World Cup game so far.
