India Squad for South Africa ODIs to be decided by New Selection Committee, says BCCI Chief

The President of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sourav Ganguly on Monday announced that the India squad for upcoming ODIs against South Africa will be picked by the new selection committee. The announcement was made after the BCCI meeting organized on Monday to discuss Indian T20 league schedule and timings alongside the appointment of the national selection committee.

As per the media reports, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, Ajit Agarkar, Rajesh Chauhan and Venkatesh Prasad are considered to be the strongest contenders that can take place of the outgoing chairman of the selection committee, MSK Prasad (South Zone) and Gagan Khoda (Central Zone).

“The Test squad for New Zealand has already been picked by the old committee, and new committee’s first meeting will be held before home ODI series against South Africa. The interviews for short-listed candidates will happen soon,” Ganguly said.

While talking about the picking India squad for the upcoming ODI series against South Africa, Sourav Ganguly also talked about replacing Gautam Gambhir as a member of the Cricket Advisory Committee. The replacement is being done keeping in mind that he is ineligible to hold any position being a Member of Parliament.

We have decided on Gautam’s replacement, and the announcement will be made soon. Madan Lal and Sulakshana are there,” he said.

Ganguly also addressed Hardik Pandya’s health and his comeback to the national side. He said, “He can’t play right now. It will take some time before he gets fit.”.

Hardik Pandya recently failed the fitness test, delaying his comeback to the national side. Meanwhile, his trainer S Rajnikant has made claims that the player can easily pass the YoYo Test.
