The Quadrangular U-19 series that was being played in South Africa came to an exciting end as the India U-19 team defeated hosts South Africa by 69 runs to lift the Quadrangular U-19 trophy on Thursday. The victory came as a joint effort from Wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jorel and left-arm spinner Atharva Ankolekar.
On the one hand, the keeper-batsman Jorel played an amazing knock of 101 runs off 115 balls, Ankolekar, on the other picked four wickets with figures of 4/31. The Indian bowlers tried their best to restrict South Africa on 190 in just 43.1 overs.
India was put to bat first after the hosts won the toss and opted to field first. The game didn’t start off to a good team for the national team, as India was 3 down at a mere score of 13 in the starting 6 overs. Big names of Indian team like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Divyaansh Saxena and skipper Priyam Garg failed to create magic on the field and departed early.
A beautiful partnership of 164 runs for the fourth wicket between Jorel and Tilak Varma laid the foundation of India’s victory. Tilak Varma hit 70 runs off 103 deliveries including 7 boundaries and a six.
Despite a slow start, team India managed to put a tally of 250 runs on the board in 259 for a loss of seven wickets, within their share of 50 overs. The total looked quite easy to achieve to the visitors, but the terrific bowling restricted South Africa to just 190 helping India clinch the title by 69 runs.
Dhruv Jorel was adjudged as the Player of the match for his amazing knock that helped the team reach victory.
