ICC to discuss India’s Host Status for WT20 2021 on June 01

The ICC Board will now have a proper discussion on the upcoming World T20 which is scheduled to play in India in October-November this year. The tournament is now less than six months away. Board will set up a plan on June 01 for a possibility to host this event in India or UAE. India is seeing the second wave of COVID-19 and there is expected to see a third wave of this virus in September. BCCI failed to even host the Indian T20 League 2021 which was postponed after 29 matches.

BCCI will also address its members for the planning of hosting this event and they will also plan for Indian T20 League 2021’s resumption. If UAE hosts the event, BCCI can even ask for the hosting fee to ICC but it’s a different story. The other topics will also be discussed in this meeting like tax exemptions and adding more teams to World Cups.

It’s been 5 years since we saw a T20 WC and in the last four years, teams participated in only two ICC events CT17 and ODI WC 2019. In upcoming years, fans will see more ICC events and WT20 2021 will be the first. Australia will host 2022 WT20 and India will host the ODI WC 2023. We will see another WT20 in 2024. It means ICC will organise four ICC events in Men’s Cricket in the next four years. We are not including two WTC Finals during this period.
