South Africa – 211/5

The Proteas are no stranger to making headlines in the history of the World T20 Cup. The team has had some of the best hitters of the white ball and in the 2009’s World T20 Cup edition, the South African proved the same.

Coming in at number five, South Africa holds the record of making the fifth-highest runs in the World T20 Cup – 211 runs. The Proteas scored this massive total against the Scotland team in 2009 at the Oval stadium. In return, the South African team stopped the Scottish team on just 81 runs.

India – 218/4

The Men in Blue made the fourth-highest score in the history of the World T20 Cup. In 2007, India faced England in Durban and the world one of the best batting performances by a team that was considered underdogs before the start of the tournament.

In that match, Y. Singh hit his iconic 6 sixes in a single over of S. Broad and scored the fastest half-century in a World T20 Cup. Furthermore, team India made their highest team score in the tournament – 218 runs. V. Sehwag and G. Gambhir also contributed a great deal in the top order when they collectively scored 126 runs.

South Africa – 229/4

In 2016, during the match between South Africa and England, the fans witnessed a one-of-a-kind match. Batting first, the Proteas made 229 runs which were the second-most highest runs scored by a team.

Amla and de Kock, collectively scored 110 runs at the top, similarly, towards the end of the innings, J. Duminy turned many heads when he scored 54 runs off 28 balls. However, after scoring such a mammoth score, the South African team had to taste defeat after England scored 230 runs and won the match by 2 wickets.

England – 230/8

England holds the record for the second-highest score in the history of the World T20 Cup. The former World T20 Cup winners scored 230 runs against the in-form South Africa at the Wankhede Stadium on March 2016.

That night, the England team made another record. The team made the record for the highest score chased in the World T20 Cup. In the first innings, South Africa made 229 runs, courtesy of H. Amla, de Kock and J. Duminy. However, the hard-hitting from J. Roy and J. Root helped England and they eventually won the match by two wickets.

Sri Lanka – 260/6

When one thinks about some of the biggest hitters of the ball, teams like West Indies and Australia pop into mind. However, the 2007 squad of Sri Lanka defied all odds and made several records in the inaugural World T20 Cup.

The Lankan Lions made 260 runs in a match against the Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, on 14th September 2007. It was a fateful night for the Lankan players as S. Jayasuriya and M. Jayawardene carried the team and completely bashed the Kenya bowlers. Lanka’s innings of 260/6 still stand as the highest runs scored by any team in a World T20 Cup match.
