Coming in at number 5, T Dilshan M. Jayawardene created a record fifth-highest partnership in the history of the World T20 Cup. In 2014, the pioneers of Sri Lanka made reached a partnership of 145 runs for the second wicket against England.

Dilshan and Jayawardene scored 145 runs in just 94 balls. In the partnership, Dilshan contributed 89 runs off 51 balls, meanwhile, Jayawardene scored 50 runs off 43 deliveries. With the help of this partnership, the Lankan lions managed to reach a competitive total of 189 runs. However, Sri Lanka lost the match, thanks to the partnership between A. Hales and E. Morgan.

C. Gayle and D. Smith – 145 runs

The inaugural World T20 Cup is famous for many instances. One such instance is the mammoth partnership between C. Gayle and D. Smith against South Africa. Gayle and Smith collected 145 runs off 82 balls for the first wicket, which was the highest partnership record for the first wicket until 2021.

During the partnership, Gayle did the heavy lifting and hit 98 off 48 deliveries and Smith hit 35 runs off 34 balls. It is the same match in which the first-ever T20I century was hit by C. Gayle. The match is also remembered for the partnership between H. Gibbs and J. Kemp – 120* runs.

A. Hales and E. Morgan – 152 runs

The match between Sri Lanka and England in the 2014 World T20 Cup. Firstly, Dilshan and Jayawardene defied all odds and created a partnership of 145 runs. In the second innings, A. Hales and E. Morgan of England turned the tables and scored a partnership of 152 runs off just 93 balls for the third wicket.

Sri Lanka gave the English Lions a target of 189 runs. In return, England struggled at first as two of their best batters got out on ducks. However, Hales and Morgan had another plan. During the partnership, Morgan hit 57 off 38 balls and Hales hit 93 off just 55 balls. Moreover, Hales made 116 runs in total and won the match for England.

M. Rizwan and B. Azam – 152* runs

Pakistan registered a historic win against their arch-rivals, India at the 2021 edition of the Word T20 Cup. Batting first, India scored a low score of 151 runs against Pakistan. In return, M. Rizwan and B. Azam created history and reached a partnership of 152* runs for the first wicket.

This is the highest partnership for the 1st wicket in the history of the World T20 Cup. With the help of this partnership, Pakistan defeated the Men in Blue for the first time in World T20 Cup.

M. Jayawardene and K. Sangakkara – 166 runs

Two of the best batters in Sri Lanka created history and mustered the highest partnership in World T20 Cup. In 2010, M. Jayawardene and K. Sangakkara scored a mammoth partnership of 166 runs against the West Indies.

This partnership is the highest partnership in the history of the World T20 Cup for any wicket. During the partnership, Jayawardene scored 86 runs off 50 balls, on the other hand, Sangakkara scored 68 off 49 balls. Eventually, the Lankan Lions won the match, thanks to the over-the-top performance of these two batters.
