Highest Individual Scores in World T20 Cup

As the festival of T20 cricket is underway, let’s look at the highest individual scores in the World T20 Cup from some of the greatest entertainers of this generation.

10. L. Wright

Team: England

Score: 99* (55)

The stylish all-rounder smacked 99 runs off 55 balls against Afghanistan in England’s opening match at the 2012 World T20 Cup. Wright made a comeback after recovering from a knee injury and treated spectators with 14 boundaries including 6 sixes at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.

9. M. Jayawardena

Team: Sri Lanka

Score: 100 (64)

Former Sri Lanka captain smashed his first century in T20s at the 2010 World T20 Cup against Zimbabwe. Jayawardena, the highest run-scorer in the history of the World T20 Cup, opened the innings and displayed his class for 80 minutes. Jayawardena hit 10 fours and 4 sixes in this innings.

8. C. Gayle

Team: West Indies

Score: 100* (48)

It is no surprise that Universal Boss Gayle is part of this list. One of the most important T20 knocks of his career, Gayle helped the Windies to chase down 182 in just 18 overs against England. The Wankhede crowd were treated to 11 mammoth sixes by Gayle in his 48-ball century.   

7. S. Raina

Score: 101 (60)

At the 2010 World T20 Cup, Raina became the first Indian to score a century in T20Is. Often known as a finisher, Raina came to bat at no. 3 after M. Vijay went for a duck in the first over against South Africa. On a tough batting pitch and highly humid conditions of St. Lucia, Raina fully relished the opportunity as India comfortably won by 14 runs.

6. J. Buttler

Score: 101* (67)

Newly appointed England skipper, J. Buttler made Sharjah his back-garden and played a special knock of 101 not-out on 67 balls. This knock from the English wicket-keeper against Sri Lanka was the only century scored at the 2021 World T20 Cup. En route to his hundred, Buttler smacked 12 boundaries including 6 massive sixes. 

5. T. Iqbal

Team: Bangladesh

Score: 103* (63)

The seasoned opening batsman became the first Bangladeshi player to score a hundred in the World T20 Cup. At the unique cricketing abode of Dharmsala, Iqbal played a knock suitable for the venue. In his 103-run innings, Iqbal hit 5 sixes against minnows Oman as Bangladesh won the match by 54 runs (D/L method).

4. A. Shehzad

Team: Pakistan

Score: 111* (62)

Often in the limelight for wrong reasons, A. Shehzad stole the show when he smashed 111 not out against Bangladesh at the 2014 World T20 Cup. With this century, Shehzad became the first Pakistani batsman to achieve this feat. The Mirpur crowd stood helpless and amazed as Shehzad steam-rolled Bangladeshi bowlers. In his 96-minute innings, Shehzad hit 10 fours and 5 sixes.

3. A. Hales

Score: 116 (64)

Another English batter in this list, A. Hales blew away the Lankans in his hale-storm at the 2014 World T20 Cup. Chasing 190, England lost 2 wickets in the first over but the English opener had a 152-run 3rd-wicket partnership with E. Morgan. The tall and strong fellow from Nottingham, hit the ball 6 times out of the park in his innings of 116 runs. 

2. C. Gayle

Score: 117 (57)

Yup, you guessed it right! C. Gayle features in this list not once but twice. In the first ever match of the World T20 Cup, Gayle scored 117 runs off just 57 balls and introduced the thrill of T20 cricket to the world. Although coming in a lost cause against South Africa, his hundred didn’t go to waste as it helped him to cement his legacy as the most destructive batsman in the world.

Score: 123 (58)

One of the greatest T20 batsmen, Baz holds the record of highest individual score in the World T20 Cup. On a humid Pallekele night, Bangladesh bowlers faced the wrath of the former Kiwi skipper as he raised hell over them with his bat. McCullum’s innings of 123-runs featured 11 fours and 7 sixes and came in just 58 deliveries.
