Groups and Teams
In the 2022 Football World Cup, 32 teams are equally divided in 8 different groups (A-H). In the group stage, two halves of 45 minutes with a 15 minute half-time break will be played. There will be no extra time and penalty shootouts in the group stage. In each group, every team will play once against one another. A total of 48 matches will be played in the group stage.

Top 2 teams from each group will move on to the Round of 16. From Round of 16 onwards, if a match can’t be decided in regulation time, extra-time and penalty shootouts will be effective.
Venues
The World Cup will be played in 8 different state of the art stadiums. These stadiums are equipped with features like latest innovations in stadium technology, VAR, Goal-Line technology, panoramic broadcasting cameras and many more.

Al Bayt Stadium: This 60,000 seater stadium will host the opening match of the 2022 Football World Cup.
Lusail Stadium: The largest stadium in Qatar is the 80,000 seater Lusail stadium. It will host the Final of 2022 Football World Cup.
Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium: This 40,000 seater stadium is located west of Central Doha and will host 6 matches including 1 RO16 match.
Al Janoub Stadium: Opened in 2019, this 40,000 seater stadium will also host 6 matches in the 2022 Football World Cup.

Al Thumama Stadium: Situated in Doha, this 40,000 seater stadium will host 7 matches including 1 quarter-final fixture.
Education City Stadium: One of the most innovative stadiums, the seating capacity of the ground is 40,000.
Khalifa International Stadium: Inspired by the design of new Wembley Stadium, this 40,000 seater stadium will host the penultimate match in the 2022 Football World Cup.
Stadium 974: Named after the dialing code of Qatar, the capacity of this stadium is 40,000.
Official Mascot & Ball
The official mascot of Football World Cup 2022 is La’eeb. It is an Arabic word which means ‘super-skilled player’ in English. The aspect which makes La’eeb unique and different from every previous mascot is that it belongs to a mascot-verse and its form is open to personal interpretation.

Adidas revealed Al-Rihla as the official ball of the Football World Cup 2022. Al-Rihla, an Arabic word means ‘the journey’ in English. With the creation of Al-Rihla, Adidas has now made 14 official balls for the Football World Cup.
