Fastest Centuries in World T20 Cup

Hitting a century is not an ordinary feat in a T20 match. The fast-paced nature of the contest makes it really difficult for the players to stick onto the crease and hit a century. However, there have been various instants when the players have defied all odds and scored a century. So, today, we’ll take a look at the players who fastest centuries in World T20 Cup.

For this list, we will mention five players who faced the minimum number of deliveries to hit a ton in the history of the World T20 Cup.

B. McCullum

The first entry on this list is the magnificent B. McCullum. The former Kiwi skipper shaped the T20 format in a big way. McCullum still holds the record for the highest individual score in the history of the World T20 Cup.

In 2012, McCullum scored 123* runs and faced only 58 deliveries. His strike rate is perhaps the best among all the players mentioned in this list. During his innings, McCullum hit 11 beautiful fours and 7 gigantic sixes, having a strike rate of 212.06 against Bangladesh.

M. Jayawardene

Jayawardene was a pioneer in Sri Lankan cricket history. The calm and collected batter always had a knack for creating runs, no matter the situation. During his career, Jayawardene created many records, but most of them limited ODIs and Test matches.

However, Jayawardene’s performance 2010 World T20 Cup added another feather to his cap. In 2010, Jayawardene hit 100 runs off just 64 balls against Zimbabwe. The former Sri Lankan captain hit 10 fours and 6 sixes during his innings with a strike rate of 156.25.

S. Raina

S, Raina is the only Indian batter to have scored a century in the history of the World T20 Cup. The Ghaziabad native scored his only T20I century in 2010 against South Africa. During his innings, Raina hit the ball cleanly at every instant, eventually, scoring a ton in just 60 deliveries.

Raina hit 9 fours and 5 sixes during his innings. It was this performance in the 2010 World T20 Cup that made Raina a mainstay for the T20 matches. Since that match, Raina never scored another century in the T20I contests.

C. Gayle

The Universe Boss of the world cricket is one of the best batters to ever play the game. C. Gayle holds numerous records to his name, especially in the World T20 Cup. In the inaugural edition of the World T20 Cup, C. Gayle became the first person to score a century in a T20 match.

He scored 117* runs off just 57 deliveries against South Africa. During his innings, the power hitter of West Indies hit 7 fours and 10 sixes with a strike rate of 205.6. That match in 2007, changed the course of T20I matches because of the sheer brilliance of C. Gayle.

C. Gayle

The only person who can beat C. Gayle is C. Gayle. The Universe Boss shocked the entire world when he broke his own record of the fastest century in the history of the World T20 Cup.

In 2016, Gayle scored the fastest century by hitting 100* runs off just 48 balls against England. During the innings, he hit 5 fours and 11 mammoth sixes, which means he hit 86 runs without running. Surely, this feat from C. Gayle is highly unlikely to be replicated, but in the unpredictable world of T20 cricket, nothing is certain.
