England hosts Iceland in the UEFA Nations League 2020-21 at Wembley Stadium for the final matchday in League A Group 2.
Match Timings: NOV 19, 1:15 AM
England and Iceland both are to find some pride in the Nations League. The Three Lions cannot qualify for the finals, and Iceland are already out of the knock-out contention. England lost their last encounter 2-0 against Belgium to find them eliminated. Gareth Southgate’s men will not make a second appearance at the finals. Jack Grealish created opportunities for the Three Lions but Youri Tielemans' goal in the 10th minute and Dries Mertens’ free kick in the 24th minute knock England out of the knock-out race.
In 5 group stage encounters, England netted just three times. Only Iceland, Sweden, and Bosnia have also struck on just three occasions. They are going to finish third in the group as they will surely get over from Iceland. Southgate’side defeated Iceland in the first-leg game 1-0, courtesy of Raheem Sterling’s injury-time strike.
Meanwhile, Iceland's Nations League campaign has been disappointing. They lost all five games in the group stage, including the defeat against their Wednesday rivals. Erik Hamren's men conceded 13 goals and scored just three. They came close to get points twice, but late strikes broke their hearts. First, Sterling netted a late-winner for England, and then, Christian Eriksen scored a late penalty for Denmark to break Icelandic hearts. Hamren's side did slightly better compared to the 2018-19 season.
