Deepak Chahar sidelined till April 2020

Indian speed merchant Deepak Chahar is expected to be side-lined till April 2020 after aggravating his back injury, BCCI chief selector MSK Prasad confirmed on Monday.

Chahar, who picked up an injury during the 2nd ODI of the recently concluded India vs West Indies series could also miss out the forthcoming Indian T20 League which is set to begin towards the end of March.

Chief selector MSK Prasad confirmed the news and said that the Pacer is ruled out for a significant amount of time.

"I have my own doubts about Deepak Chahar till March-April," Prasad told reporters.

Deepak Chahar has been a regular feature in Team India’s limited-overs squad after the World Cup. The speedster has performed really well in the shorter formats and the injury could be a big blow for Team India and his IPL team Chennai Super Kings.

But Prasad said that they have quality back-ups and team India has nothing to worry.

“See unlike the past there is a lot of cricket that is being played. So, whenever you exert yourself you are bound to get injured. It is really unfortunate. But having said that, we have enough backups ready across all formats, across all disciplines, so Indian cricket need not worry for the next 6-7 years,” Prasad said.

Deepak Chahar will miss the T20I series against Sri Lanka, ODI series against Australia and the tour of New Zealand. Khaleel Ahmed and Navdeep Saini could be the likely replacement for the Right-arm pacer.
