Cricket South Africa(CSA) has announced the appointment of Jacques Kallis as South Africa's batting consultant. The former Proteas all-rounder is the latest name in the South Africa's coaching set-up after the appointment of Mark Boucher as head coach and former captain Graeme Smith as acting director of cricket.
Kallis will be part of South Africa’s coaching staff for the England series, and will join the rest of the squad in Pretoria today.
The 44-year-old featured in 166 Tests, 328 ODIs and 25 T20 Internationals for South Africa. He scored 25,534 runs and picked 577 wickets across all format for the Proteas.
Charl Langeveldt, former South Africa bowler is expected to take up the role as bowling consultant. Langeveldt has left his position as Bangladesh fast-bowling coach on the request of CSA and his appointment is expected to be announced in a couple of days.
“I can confirm that we have received a formal request for his release,” said Nizam Uddin Chowdhury, the BCB CEO. “We value our strong cricketing relationship with CSA. We have also taken into consideration that he was a South African international cricketer, and we understand his reasons for wanting to work with his own team. The Board has decided to release him with immediate effect.”
South Africa will host England from mid-December until mid-February for four Test matches, three ODIs and three T20s. The series will begin with the first Test on Boxing Day at The Centurion.
