Chennai vs Mumbai Match Preview

After a long wait of 6 months, Indian T20 League is back in action. And nothing could be more satisfying than watching the oldest rivals in the league, i.e., Chennai and Mumbai, taking on each other in the inaugural match of the continued 14th season.

Chennai's points in the table are quite good with the best net run rate of +1.263. They have played 7 matches so far and have won 5 out of them. After losing the first match against Delhi in the league, Chennai went on to win straight 5 matches and thrashed Bangalore, Punjab and Rajasthan to gain a massive net run rate. They had to suffer a loss against Mumbai in their 7th match, and they're back again to face Mumbai on 19th September in the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

Chennai's records are not very impressive against Mumbai as they have won just 12 matches out of 31 meetings. Faf du Plessis' injury in the Caribbean T20 League is a bad news for the team as he had emerged to be the highest run-scorer in the league for them so far. However, Moeen Ali seems to be in good form after his performance against India in the recent test series.

Talking about Mumbai, they are currently on the 4th position in the points table with 4 wins and 3 losses in their previous 7 matches in the league. Mumbai, as always, lost their first match in the league, and even though their performance lags in the initial phase they somehow manage to get to the playoffs quite easily. Their batting order is also quite unpredictable as despite losing top order wickets they managed to chase down 219 in their last match before the tournament was halted.

Weather Report

The weather is always hot in United Arab Emirates and because of the region no rainfall is expected during the match.

Pitch Report

Abu Dhabi's pitch supports batsmen as it has a very flat pitch. Because of the bounce on the surface, batsmen are free to play their shots in an independent manner. The boundary is quite lengthy and hence spinners stand a greater chance of dismissals. Batting first teams will try to score anything above 180 to have a good hold on the match.
