Bhuvneshwar Kumar injured, Shardul Thakur called as his replacement for Windies ODIs

Mumbai pacer Shardul Thakur has been called into the squad as replacement for the injured Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the three-match ODI series against West Indies, starting on Sunday.

Bhuvneshwar complained of pain in his right groin after the final T20I in Mumbai on Wednesday. The Uttar Pradesh swing bowler underwent an ultrasound scan and the medical team found that his sportsman’s hernia symptoms have resurfaced.

The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Shardul Thakur as his replacement.

Bhuvneshwar has been struggling with the hamstring injuries since World Cup 2019. The Indian pacer walked off midway during the encounter against Pakistan in Manchester. After missing the home series against South Africa and Bangladesh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar made a comeback in the recently concluded T20I series against West Indies, but the seasoned pacer suffered a heartbreak after playing just 3 T20Is.

Shardul Thakur last played for India in the Asia Cup in 2018. Thakur had recently featured in Mumbai’s Ranji Test Trophy against Baroda in Vadodara.

This is the second change to the original squad. Recently, Shikhar Dhawan was replaced by Mayank Agarwal as the opener couldn’t recover from his knee injury on time.

Revised India’s squad: Virat Kohli (captain), Rohit Sharma (vice-captain), Mayank Agarwal, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Rishabh Pant, Shivam Dube, Kedar Jadhav, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Deepak Chahar, Mohammed Shami, Shardul Thakur
