He has been suspended until November 15, 2019, after BCCI backdated the player’s suspension to March 16.

The sample was found to have Terbutaline – a substance that is on the WADA Prohibited List of Substances. "Prithvi Shaw registered with Mumbai Cricket Association, has been suspended for a doping violation. Shaw had inadvertently ingested a prohibited substance, which can be commonly found in cough syrups," the BCCI said in a statement.

After he got to know about his suspension, the youngster instantly admitted the charges. According to him, he didn’t take any prohibited substance. He said, “During the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy, I took cough syrup, and its usage has given me this fate.”

The BCCI is satisfied with Mr. Shaw’s explanation that he had taken Terbutaline inadvertently to treat a Respiratory Tract Infection and not as a performance-enhancing drug.”

According to BCCI guidelines, Shaw is allowed to return to train with the team or use club facilities from September 15, 2019 – for the last two months of his period of ineligibility.
