The members of Indian T20 League governing council will meet today in New Delhi to discuss the Schedule and timings of the upcoming Indian T20 League. The council will decide on the early commencement of the night matches of the upcoming edition. The council reportedly wants to have a 7.30 PM start instead of the usual 8 PM for the night matches.
“The broadcasters want an early start (7 PM or 7:30 PM) along with no double-headers on weekends. The matters will be up for discussion. The full schedule of the tournament is likely to be discussed at the GC,” a senior BCCI member said.
The Indian T20 League Council headed by Brijesh Patel is also expected to discuss organizing a 3-month long tournament with 10 teams next year.
BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah will also be present in the meeting to finalize the three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) that will interview the candidates for the national selection panel.
It is said that Former Indian Cricketers Gautam Gambhir and Sulakshana Naik will not be eligible for the post of CAC members as they both retired during the 2018-19 season. As per Lodha Committee norms, for anyone to be a member of CAC, he or she needs to be retired from active cricket for at least five years.
The other discussion on the table will be regarding Guwahati's Barsapara Stadium making its debut as an Indian T20 League venue. If approved, the stadium will act as second base for Rajasthan Royals, who have Assam youngster Riyan Parag in their team.
